Toddler Newsletter
MAY 2010
Dear Parents,
Here we are at the end of another great year in the Toddler classroom!
The children have learned so many things, from living in a community of friends to social interaction and grace and courtesy skills. They are so amazing! Our youngest children, who came in January, are using work rugs, saying words, taking turns, and saying “Yes, please” at snack time. They have learned all these things by watching the older children in the classroom. The Montessori philosophy is such a beautiful thing! It allows children to blossom in a natural, comfortable manner.
I feel as if I watched each and every one of your children begin to unfold the layers of the person he or she will become. The progress and achievements of this class has been a wonderful journey this year for me and my staff, as well as for the children.
I would like to thank all of you for your support and generous donations to the Toddler Program this school year. If you still have volunteer hours to fulfill, the Children’s House is in need of parents to listen to readers. Please check in at the office to see what times you can volunteer.
We have ridden several of our riding toys into the “sunset” this year. If you have any small big wheels or other riding toys you would like to donate, please bring them to school. The children will certainly appreciate them.
The children who will be attending Children’s House in the fall will be visiting a Children’s House classroom for short periods of time beginning in May. Visiting helps the children become familiar with the 3 - 6 environment and makes transitioning in the fall much easier. The Toddler teachers will walk your child over and stay with him until he is comfortable in the classroom. The children usually love visiting where the “big” kids are and have a great time!
Take some time this summer for a nature walk with your children. Go to the library and let your Toddler pick out some books. Play outside and enjoy the wonders of the world through the eyes of your children. They have so much curiosity and find joy in the observation of nature and the creatures that live there. Watching an ant or a worm is a scientific adventure to a Toddler!
**Suggested reading for parents, Optimum Nutrition for Your Child’s Mind by Patrick Holford and Deborah Colson. “This evidence- based guide will show you how to choose the right foods (and avoid the wrong ones) to optimize your child’s mental and emotional well-being. Nutritional authorities Patrick Holford and Deborah Colson have worked with hundreds of children - with problems ranging from ADHD and aggression to autism- and have advised schools on using nutrition to improve attention and classroom conduct. Here they use scientific studies to explain the physiological effects certain nutrients have on the way children think and act. They will show you what to feed your child and what supplements to use to:
- Develop concentration and focus
- Enhance memory
- Boost IQ
- Improve mood and behavior
- Strengthen reading and writing
- You will learn tips for preparing concentration-sustaining breakfasts, snacks with low glycemic loads, amino acid-rich lunches, and smart-fat dinners- getting your child off to the best start in life physically, mentally, and emotionally.” --Taken from the back cover.
Have a safe and wonderful summer! Thank you for sharing your child with us!
