Mary's Message - February

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !!!!  This is always a favorite time around here for the children.  They LOVE taking their valentines home to open and share with their parents.  The love the children feel from their friends and teachers shows on their faces as they hand them out. Every year our children make valentines for the soldiers and the sick children at Riley Hospital. When I mailed the valentines this year, it brought tears to my eyes.  From the toddlers to the 8th graders, the cards were made with a great deal of compassion and love.

SCHOOL NEWS AND NOTES
Two students, Alex Chobot and Dylan Sumski, both in Elementary 1, are collecting food for the poor.  This was completely their idea.  They typed up a letter and went into all the classes "challenging" the students to bring in food for the food pantries in the area.  The class with the most food will get a pizza party.  The collection boxes are outside of each classroom.  This is another example of compassion exhibited by the students at MSW.

We collected close to $1850 for the Montessori Schools in Haiti. The pizza and movie matinee proved to be different and fun.  Several of the donations were way over the amount helping us give more than we normally would for the size of our school.  This is one more example of love and compassion from the families at MSW.  Thank you for helping teach this wonderful spirit of giving to those in need.

On Sunday, February 21, from 1-4, we are having an Open House to kick-off Montessori Week around the United States.  Please tell your friends to stop in and get some information about Montessori and our school.  MSW families are encouraged to come, also.

If you have not already signed up to hear Trevor Eissler, please call the office or email to RSVP.  I have his book, Montessori Madness, in the office for $10.  The evening will be informative and fun.  The date is Monday, March 1st at 6:30. If you are not able to make the evening, buy his book. You will definitely learn something, as I did.

The Science Fair projects are due on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 16th and 17th.  The projects get more advanced each year.  If you get a chance check them out downstairs.

The Taste of the World is Wednesday, March 3. This is a fun and busy day filled with lots of food and artifacts from around the world. Information will be sent out from each Children's House and Elementary soon.

Spring is right around the corner giving us hope for our flowers and birds to return while the children are smiling and dancing in the sunshine.  Can you tell that it has been too long of a winter for me?

God Bless,

Mary Lyman
