Mary's Message - APRIL

Dear Montessori Families,

Welcome Spring!! As we enter into April, I’d like to wish you all a wonderful and safe Spring Break. I know the children have been very happy to be spending more time outdoors. We have been re-reviewing playground rules and talking with the children about safety. One important item to mention is our new policy on “heelie shoes”. We have adopted the same policy as Westfield Washington schools regarding “heelies” (tennis shoes with the wheel on the bottom). Heelies are NOT ALLOWED to be worn to school due to safety reasons. This new policy is in the best interest of all children to keep them safe in and out of the classroom while on school grounds.

We have also talked with the children about Tornado drills and what to do when they hear the siren go off. We had a Tornado drill a couple of weeks ago and all the classrooms did a great job in getting to the basement quickly, quietly and safely. I would encourage you to talk with your children at home about where to go in your house should there be severe weather.

April will be a busy month for us as we prepare the classes for the Spring Musical on Friday, April 27th. It will take place at Oak Trace Elementary at 7:00 pm. Watch for notes from your child’s classroom for more details on what time to be there and dress for the children.

Also, our Elementary students will be taking the Terra Nova tests on April 23, 24, 25 in the morning. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast in the morning to help them through their testing.

If you haven’t done so already, please contact the office to set up a spring conference to discuss your child’s progress. Children’s House conferences will be in April and Elementary will be in May.

I’d like to thank parents and students for making the Scholastic Book Fair a BIG success! We sold over $2500 worth of books and other items, which will generate a good percentage back to the school.

A big THANK YOU goes to all of the families that helped us collect food for WGNR and Shepherd Community to feed the hungry children in the Indianapolis area during spring break. Your contributions will make a big impact on keeping children from going hungry.
