Field Trip to Clowes Hall (Butler University)
On Wednesday, November 5, the Elementary 1 class will be attending a musical based on “The Magic Treehouse” series of books. The performance begins at 12:00, noon. We will leave school at 11:00 AM and return by 1:45 PM. Please sign and return the permission slip that is attached.
In the Classroom
The upcoming election will be a topic of study this month. The students will learn more about the election process, read about the presidential candidates, and cast a mock ballot. We will also introduce president research which will give the children the opportunity to learn more about past presidents and U.S. history. In geography, the students will continue to explore the geography of the United States. As Thanksgiving approaches, they will learn more about the 1st Thanksgiving and early settlement in America. In science, we will continue to study the classes of invertebrates and also make a leaf collection.
The students will be working with new work plans this month. There will be specific jobs that they need to do in each area. New lessons will be listed on the work plan as well as ongoing jobs in the classroom. We are hoping this gives the children a better idea of expectations and will also make sure they are doing challenging work. We will continue to mark their work plan as they complete their jobs.
Thanksgiving Feast
On November 25th, the Elementary 1 classroom will hold its annual Thanksgiving Feast. The children prepare for the feast by making table decorations, reviewing table manners, and baking bread.
This is an event for the children, but we do ask that parents contribute food. We will also need volunteers that day to help set up and serve the food. Look for more information in the next few weeks.
Thank You
Thank you to the parents who drove on our field trip to Stuckey Farm. We would also like to thank the parents who have come in to listen to readers. A special thanks to Dave Carnal, Debbie Bell, and Allen Cummings for helping with our computers and to Debbie Bell for all of the work she’s done in the library.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
If you did not get a chance to sign up for a conference it is not too late to have one. Please see us to set up a time.
